New Event – ‘Essence of Angling’ Photo Contest

Humboldt Steelhead Days organizers announce a photography competition soon to take place on the North Coast of California as part of Humboldt Steelhead Days, 2017.

Humboldt Steelhead Days is a three-month-long, county-wide promotion and celebration of ‘All Things Steelhead.’ In addition to numerous angling activities and a host of on-shore events for all ages and interests, and ‘Essence of Angling’ photography competition will be held, beginning January 1st and running through March 31st. The competition is a significant part of HSD and is open to anyone with a camera and an eye for compelling imagery. 1st prize is $1,000; 2nd prize is $750; 3rd prize is $500.

With the competition, organizers hope to encourage and capture iconic images of the steelhead angling experience and all things related to it; the fish, the anglers, the rivers, and their near environs in Humboldt County.  Images could range from a swirl of water around a rock, to a happy kid in a drift boat; a steelhead being caught or released, or a sunset over redwoods and water; virtually anything related to the broader angling experience in Humboldt.

Registration for Humboldt Steelhead Days is $10.00 and this fee automatically enters one into the photography competition. Images will be judged by a panel of experienced local artists and photographers and winners announced at an ‘End of Season’ carnival, April 1, 2017. See the Contest description for more info.

All proceeds from HSD fund efforts to create awareness and further promote restoration and recovery of Humboldt’s iconic winter Steelhead populations and their spawning habitat.
